Antique Opal and Diamond Cluster ring

Tax included.

An exquisite Early/Mid Twentieth Century ring featuring a vibrant and lively Cabochon Cut Opal that displays subtle flashes of colour, surrounded by fourteen well matched Diamonds. The ring sits low on the fingers so it is a practical ring to wear.

At the turn of the Twentieth Century, Opals were coming in to England from Australia. The first discovery of common Opals in Australia was made near Angaston by the German geologist Johannes Menge in 1849. Both the Queensland Boulder Opal and Lightning Ridge fields attracted miners in the 1880’s. The Opals found were exported in large quantities worldwide and became really fashionable as the “must” stone to wear!

The Opal has a calculated weight of 1.37 Carat and is surrounded by fourteen Eight Cut Diamonds in a Scallop & Grain setting. The Diamonds have a total weight of 0.35 Carat and are Colour H/I and Clarity SI1. The Tapered shoulders sweep down to a plain ‘D’ shape shank.

This ring has been beautifully made in 18ct White Gold and stamped to the band. There is also a makers mark of SB&Sld, which we believe dates the ring back to circa 1930’s.

This really is a charming piece that would make a lovely dress or engagement ring. Opal has always been associated with love and passion and wearing an opal is said to bring about loyalty and faithfulness.

This ring comes with paperwork from The Guild of Valuers and Jewellers stating a ‘New for old valuation’ of £2,500.
